Annual General Meeting - Nov 23

It was great to see a positive attendance at our recent AGM. The club is in a strong position and extracts of the reports that were tabled are listed below. Most importantly, it was fantastic to see such a strong line up of quality people who have accepted committee roles of responsibility. All committee roles have been filled with the executive committee members being:

  • Chris Hale– Club President
  • Chris Wood – Junior Vice President
  • Justine Frescher– Female Vice President
  • Dwayne Wathen Revenue Generation – Vice President
  • Peter O’Donoghue – Club Administration – Vice President -
  • Ben Carboni – Football Operations Manager
  • Mark Frescher – Treasury
  • Cath Eames – Secretary
  • Executive Members -, Alex McDonald, Steve Pewtress, Glenn Hislop

A few callouts:

  • Chris Hale takes over as Club President. Chris has been involved with the club over the last 15 years, coaching our seconds over recent years. Chris has a wealth of football knowledge and strong football relationships both within and outside of the club.
  • We have two new vice presidents this year. Chris Wood (Juniors) and Justine Frescher (Females) . Both have been instrumental in getting our female program up and running
  • Steve Pewtress was elected Junior President in 2014 and has been Club President since 2016. Steve has overseen the ongoing development of the club over this period which has resulted in the strong club today. There are many highlights, including the Blues Academy, joining of the senior and junior club, the 2022 premiership and the redevelopment of the Mount Waverley Reserve. Well done Steve and he will continue on as an executive member
  • Alex McDonald has has been the Junior President over the last four years as well as managing the Auskick. Alex has done an excellent job ensuring the continued growth and development of the junior program and will also continue on as an executive member
  • Troy Fairbairn who has been our Football Operation Manager over the last 10 years. He has been fundamental in our on field success. Troy continues on in a similar role with the junior program in 2024.
  • Ben Carboni who has coached the seniors and under 19’s as well as being a great players takes over the reigns as Football Operations Manager

Senior Coaching Annoucement for 2024

We are delighted to announce that home grown champion player Scott Savage has been appointed to the key club position of Senior Men's Coach.

The club received a number of applicants once the role was declared open two weeks ago. Upon a thorough assessment and robust interview with Scott it was clear both Scott and our club is ready to be coached by him.

Scott presented his plan for the club from a head coaching perspective:

“Central to the plan is to springboard off the clubs recent growth and success. Our playing list has been developed over the last few years and have experienced premiership success. They are a relatively young and tight group poised to advance again. Maintaining our football preseason and training commitments, we will also refreshen up a few of our game day strategies. Pin pointing a few hand picked recruits to compliment our playing group will have us well placed to run deep in 2024,” Scott said.

Most would know Scott has a very successful and strong history as a player with our club. He has been a captain, a dual premiership player, two time best and fairest winner, premiership assistant coach and is a life member.

Scott has always maintained the enjoyment of football by being involved with coaching at both senior youth and open age levels over the past seven years.

Scott’s appointment is exciting and reflects our commuinty values given his “home grown champion pedigree” and love of our club.

We know this appointment will push our club forward as we enter the next chapter in the mighty Waverley Blues history.

Please join us in congratulating Scott Savage - Senior Coach 2024!!

Female Sport is booming @ the Blues

30 May, 2022

After a successful launch of female sport in 2016, the Waverley Blues Football Netball Club found ourselves with just one female football team and one female netball team in 2021.

The club recognised that it needed to be proactive to rebuild it’s female sports program and established a Female Sport sub-committee in May 2021.  The focus was to build a sustainable foundation for female sport.  12 months on, Female Sport at the Waverley Blues is growing at an amazing rate and the club now has 5 female sports teams, 3 Junior girls football teams and two Senior netball teams.  Female player particiaption rates have increases by  over 70% in 2022.
